Saint Martin de Porres in resin.
Martinho de Porres was born in Lima, Peru, in December 1579. His father was a Spanish nobleman and his mother was a freed slave. His father abandoned him and his sister when they were still very young, and his childhood was spent in poverty. When he was twelve years old, his father decided to take care of his children and give them a good education. Although Martin was a devout Catholic, he had difficulty joining a religious order because he was mixed race. At the age of twenty-four, he became a lay brother of the Order of Preachers, where he remained until his death. Saint Martin is known for having performed many miracles throughout his life. He was able to cure people who were sick and help those most in need, without caring about their race. He also loved and cared for animals. His feast day is November 3rd.
