Our Lady of Guadalupe in ivory.
One day in Mexico, Mary appeared to a poor man named Juan Diego and told him to ask the bishop to build a church.
Juan Diego spoke to the bishop.
However, the bishop did not believe him and told him to show him a sign of Mary's presence.
When Maria appeared again to Juan she told him to pick roses on a nearby hill and to show them to the bishop. Juan picked the roses and placed them in his tilma.
When Juan returned to the bishop and opened his cloak, the image of Our Lady appeared on his tilma.
Today this image can still be seen in a church in Mexico.
The feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrated on December 12th.
